External Installation
The Guardian tactiles have a degree of flexibility that takes surface irregularities and minor variations into account. For external use, the Peel, Bond & Walk® system still applies but we recommend the application of our special surface primer.
Before beginning the installation; check that new concrete has been cured for a minimum of 21 days. All concrete must be dry for 3 days after rain.
1. Mark out the area to be tiled using a straight edge or chalk line allowing for a 2mm gap between each tile.
2. PREPARING SURFACE AREA:
- Concrete must be dry for at least 3 days after rain. Poor adhesion will occur if area is not dry.
- Concrete must be as flat as possible without any raised obstructions. If necessary, use a grinder with the appropriate disc to
flatten the surface. - Remove all dust, dirt and debris with a leaf blower. Poor adhesion will occur if area is not cleaned properly.
- If concrete has expansion joints or holes, do not cover. Tiles should stop short of expansion joints and then continue on other side.
3. D PRIMER APPLICATION:
- Concrete must be dry for at least 3 days after rain. Poor adhesion will occur if area is not dry.
- Apply a thin and even coat of Guardian D Primer using our adhesive applicator. Ensure all the surface area is evenly covered, allowing a little primer to go over the tape edge to achieve full coverage.
- Remove masking tape.
- Allow primer to become COMPLETELY DRY (allow for 1 hour minimum). Humid and/or cool conditions will require a longer drying period.
4. Peel off the backing sheet from the tile. Lay the tiles to the marked lines, ensuring they are square. Leave a 2mm gap between each tile.
THE ADHESIVE WILL BOND IMMEDIATELY.
5. Tap the flat and then raised surface of each tile using a wooden block and hammer. Tiles can be walked on immediately.
